A Coffe and Some Proper Cups Friday
This past weekend Jeff and I were States-side – in Kalispell, MT to be exact – and when we travel, we like to make a stop or two (depending on the length of the drive) for some coffee. We made a point on our way to Kalispell of stopping at Mug Shots Bistro in Fernie, BC. It has been a little while since we have been there, and it has been a favourite place of ours for several years. So upon our arrival we quickly made our way there, looking forward to stretching our legs and enjoying a hot, caffeinated beverage. And. Oh. My. You know what I had forgotten?
How nice it is to have a hot, perfectly balanced latte in terms of espresso, flavouring, and steamed milk in a proper cup. I don’t have anything against a paper cup with a firm cup sleeve and a plastic lid. I’ve enjoyed many a coffee beverage in such a fashion. But last Friday as I sipped at my Cinnamon Spice latte (which was delicious), I savoured not only my beverage, but also the weight of the cup as I cradled it in my hands and visited with my husband. The experience was repeated the next day at a newly discovered – for us at least – coffee place in Kalispell officially known as Montana Coffee Traders with the subtitle How You Bean, Man! There we both enjoyed our lattes along with lemon blueberry scones and a visit with a man and his daughter at an adjacent table about bookstores and Mayan apocalypses. (The bookstore we ended up visiting was also quite the adventure. We could have holstered guns in-store for one. And the aisles have filled up some since the pictures on their Web site were taken.)
Then we stopped at The Cinnamon Bear Bakery & Cafe in the Crowsnest Pass on our way home. (It redeemed our sad stop at the Tim Horton’s in Fernie as Mug Shots Bistro is closed on Sundays.) We were, sadly, back to paper cups but that was okay as we had the best blueberry muffins to go along with them. (And there was much rejoicing by my younger sister when she learned this place is now open Sundays.)
How do you enjoy your coffee? Or does it not matter, as long as it’s coffee?
Happy Friday, everyone!
