A Coffee and a Flashback Friday
Thanks to the Songza app (available here), yesterday I was re-introduced to Paul Simon’s landmark 1986 album Graceland. There is a timeless quality to many of its tracks and as such, I downloaded the album from iTunes last night. Here are three of my favourite songs:
1. “You Can Call Me Al” – The video (featuring Chevy Chase) is oh-so-1980s, but the melody bounces right along all the same:
2. “Homeless” – Graceland introduced many listeners to the South African choral group Ladysmith Black Mambazo, and the following concert performance attests to the tight harmonies of this group:
3. “The Boy in the Bubble” – In my opinion, this song speaks to many of the issues and events going on in the world now as it did in the 1980s.
This week I also re-loaded some Rich Mullins tunes onto my computer that went missing when I had to get a new iMac, and this song makes me want to sit down, close my eyes, and just listen:
Happy Friday, everyone! Feel free to share any of your favourite songs – old or new – in the comment section. :-)
