A Coffee and a Mishmash Friday
The spring weather may be taking its own sweet time arriving (I’m starting to think Game of Thrones has nothing on this present-day winter season), but that doesn’t mean the spring-cleaning bug remains dormant. I find myself cleaning closets, filling donation/recycle/garbage bins, and savouring every ray of sunshine. Never mind the strong desire to shuck winter clothing in exchange for lighter jackets and fresh pops of colour. It’s time, y’all. It’s time.
Another thing it was time for was a blog redesign. Gone are the multiple framed-in boxes and generous splashes of orange. In their place are some grey hues, hints of red, and a few to-be-determined tweaks on the horizon. An informal Facebook poll regarding the changes yielded the following responses (and three “likes”):
“Love it!" “Looks good!!” “Oooo – I like the look!” “Not bad!”
So there you go. If this is your first visit here since the redesign, I hope you like it. And if it’s your first visit here ever, I have no screenshots of the previous setup. Sorry.
I called this a “mishmash” post, but honestly that’s simply because I can’t think of a better word to stick into the usual Friday “A Coffee and ______ Friday” title template. I’m also struggling with what to write for today. Sad, I know, after going a week without introducing new content. Life away from the writing desk has been busy, and I’m still trying to find a good rhythm for everything. I’ll get there. Soon. I hope.
Along with finding a good daily rhythm, here are some other things I’m looking forward to:
- The next Olan Rogers story video. This is not to downplay any of the other videos on his You Tube channel (Smoking Barrels, for example, is hilarious in its use of tiny teacups and “Tway!”), but there is something about his personal stories that I love. Maybe it’s the dramatic retellings, the editing, or the number of times Olan cracks himself up, but they are a treat. If you haven’t seen any of his work yet, where have you been?
- The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion. I purchased the Kindle edition yesterday based solely on a recommendation from The Popcast podcast. I’m not even kiddng a little bit. So if it turns out to be a terrible book, I at least will know whom to blame. But I think it will be a worthy addition to my “To Read” pile.
- Switchfoot: Fading West (the movie!). I was looking for something I might want to watch on iTunes over the weekend (for the record, I finally settled on Sense and Sensibility, which was a delight), when I discovered Switchfoot made a documentary alongside their most recent album release. It’s currently on our iTunes Wish List. If you’re reading this and have already seen the movie, what did you think about it?
- April. Because at some point, we have to be able to pack up our snow shovels and winter boots until next August. (I kid on the last part – we should be good until the end of September at least.)
Happy Friday! I hope your weekend will be filled with sunshine-y moments (even if you don’t have the weather to match).
