A Coffee and a Plan Friday
As you may have noticed from one or two of my recent posts, I have been trying to find my voice and niche for this blog. It has been a bit of a struggle to sort out because when I started blogging "back in the day", the intent had been simply to get in the habit of writing devotional-type pieces on a regular basis. Oh, and I wanted a cool title and fun little blurb along with some cool titles for the posts.
As I've mentioned before, the title and blurb finally came courtesy of Paul Brandt's song "This Time Around". The song speaks of living today, not dwelling on past regrets, and dreaming big. And that's what I try to do with varying degrees of success in my own life. (Another thing you may not have noticed is I tend to be a timid sort of a person and to underplay any sort of skills/talents I possess.) The clever titles have generally fallen by the wayside, however. They're not very SEO friendly, and honestly there are days where I would like to title a post (or six) "Stuff" and leave it at that.
But when it comes to the content and the voice? Well, that is something that has been harder to pin down. There have been times I've tried to adopt the styles of other writers, or to follow to the letter the advice of other bloggers when it comes to encouraging conversations and comments and community. There have been varying degrees of success. I also find myself wondering what success is to look like for this blog. Would there be X number of comments for every post and lots of regular readers? How about Facebook shares/likes and re-tweets? For what is successful for the Big League bloggers isn't necessarily what would be deemed successful for me as a blogger. I have to use the talents I have to the best of the abilities I have been given, and to act with the right motivations. Am I doing even this as unto God?
All that to say, for at least the remaining summer months, I will not worry about finding my voice or defining the theme of this blog. I won’t even try to look for or define those things. I'm simply going to write. It’s time, I believe, for me to "just be and enjoy" – to just be a blogger and to enjoy the process of blogging.
