A Coffee and Some Creative Space Friday
I’m not feeling all that creative as of late, what with settling into a full-time schedule at work, trying to get ready for a big trip (I bought a suitcase, and a purse. And that’s it.), and an office space at home that really needs some work done to it. It seems overall I have too much stuff I don’t actually need, except for the time to go through it all. Well, at least the time to go through it all within the next month and a half.
I’m overwhelmed right now. So it helps to get a mental snapshot of an ideal creative space, a destination of sorts to on which to set my sights.
It’s a space where the surrounding area is orderly and cleared of clutter. It’s a space with a comfy chair and a ready supply of paper, pens, coffee, and some ambient noise be it music or general chatter. It’s a space I enter into having fueled up with good books and good stories. It’s a space where I can scribble in a journal beforehand or in-between time or after the work has been done. It’s a space where, even now, as I think about it I’m filled with a longing to make it a reality, to have it be my day-to-day.
It’s a good space. And I hope you have your own creative spaces, whatever the expression of your creativity. Mine is with words and stories and coffee (always coffee). Yours may be with baking or computer coding, business deals or raising children, pastoring people or building houses or writing songs. But may we all create what we’ve been specifically wired to make. I think it’s better that way as I know for myself I’m then less likely to play the comparison game with others, and instead encourage them in their own pursuits as I find challenges and contentment in mine.
