A Coffee and Some Needed Reminders Friday
With the tone of this past Sunday, I thought upon going to sleep that night the week was set to have a fair number of rainbows and rays of sunshine coming my way. And why shouldn’t it have been so? I got to help out at my church’s annual Father’s Day Picnic, enjoy coffee with friends, and basically have a Good Day. But Monday had other ideas.
I piddled away a good chunk of my morning on “stuff”. By the time I had to go to work at 1:00 PM, I was half-debating taking a sick day so I could get done at home what I should have done in the morning. And it’s not that Monday morning was bad all on its own for joining the party were memories of past failures from the previous week and other random points in time. It was a mess. I was a mess.
But under the storm cloud, God provided encouragement as only He can do :
- He asked me, “Who do you think you aren’t” and reminded me of whose I am.
- He reminded me He answers bathroom prayers.
- And He showed me there is still beauty to be found on Earth. (Don’t Jesus juke me, please, by saying our faith is to be in Jesus and not a fallen world. I know that, but the pictures are pretty amazing all the same.)
There is something awe-inspiring about a God who shows up in the middle of our messes and muck-ups, in our imperfections and weaknesses, and shows Himself to be all sufficient and outrageously abundant in mercy and grace.
It’s humbling. And it does something for the soul I can’t quite find the words for. But it is good.
It is Very Good.
