A Coffee and Some Things Friday
Another Friday is here, another weekend is on the horizon, and I was really, truly going to have this blog post together last night, but then things happened and priorities shifted and the latter was a good shift, y’all. As such, I’m sitting here and employing a NaNoWriMo practice that involves starting to type something (anything!) and seeing what comes of it. So far, so good in that I now have a few sentences. Go, me!
I’m already realizing some benefits in relation to my goal of developing a better daily writing practice with NaNoWriMo. Yesterday a roundabout question at work on my end led to finding out about some possible changes in my office job, and rather than delve into freak-out mode about how it would affect other things … Well, hold on minute. There was no time to freak out. No, seriously! I had a few things I really needed to get done before the end of the day, and my stressing out about things that are still a bit nebulous at this point would have accomplished nothing. Besides which, I had the good sense to call Jeff, who had a few free moments himself to be a quick sounding board and help me keep things in proper perspective. He’s great at that.
Anyhow, when I got home and had time to ponder such things/potentially freak out about them, I didn’t Again: Big Picture Thinking is coming into play. I don’t have to turf All the Other Goals and Plans due to one tweak in other areas. I’ll have to shift some things around, yes, but it is not an impossible task. Part of that is because I have learned when I just write I can hit my daily word count goal in well under two hours (though the day editing starts – woo-ee!).
It’s all a bit freeing, really, to realize I don’t have to abandon one pursuit because another pursuit demands some extra time and effort be invested in it.
What things are you glad to have realized this fine Friday? (And I hope it’s a Friday with some happiness to be shared and a hot beverage to enjoy!)
