Press On: Change is Closer Than You Think
Not a revelatory, headline-worthy statement, I know. But it doesn’t take away the truth of said statement.
My husband and I were talking about it a bit over supper last night. I was sharing with him how I had found myself slipping into some old bad habits – mainly wasting time on the internet (how many times do I need to check Facebook/message boards/e-mail?) – and it was a little bit frustrating.
But upon further reflection, it’s also encouraging.
Because the biggest resistance to change is often felt when one is the closest to reaching a goal or making a new good habit a permanent one.
So rather than allow myself to fall back into old and familiar routines that ultimately leave me frustrated and running in place, I’m going to keep pressing ahead, one step at a time, to lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus laid hold of me (Philippians 3:12, NKJV). It’s not always easy, but as the old saying goes discipline weighs ounces and regret weighs tons. I know what I’d rather be living with.
