Goals - A Less Daunting Perspective
“Life is full of obstacle illusions.” ~Grant Frazier
It may seem sort of contradictory to be simultaneously participating in Jon Acuff’s Finish Year challenge and in the One Word project. I briefly thought I was setting myself up to fail at one or both. I mean either I’m setting goals to meet or simply choosing one word to focus on for 2012, right?
But then I looked at my goals alongside my “One Word” of today and I saw something – the goals I have set for Finish Year 2012 can only be reached one way. And that way is one “today” at a time.
My house will be cleaned and organized . . . by my doing what I can ‘today’.
2011’s NaNoWriMo entry will be edited and posted online . . . as I work on it in whatever time I set aside for it each ‘today’.
Reading 12 books in one year . . . requires pages to be read and turned ‘today’.
Having a daily devotional time . . . requires me keeping an important date each morning of every ‘today’.
Practicing hospitality . . . means time spent planning before the day someone comes over ‘today’.
Each goal is accomplished one step, one today, at a time, one after another after another after another. And broken down like that the tasks are not so daunting, the journey doesn’t look endless.
I can do this . . . today.
