In Search of Balance
For as a blogger in particular, the temptation can arise to share every mistake, every struggle in an attempt to be “real” and “transparent”. But there are some things better left unsaid and kept off the Internet. Relationships and privacy should not be sacrificed for page views or building a platform. But one doesn’t want to go too far the other way, either, and present a heavily edited version of “you” where you have nothing but questions with answers and life neatly sorted into a five-step plan.
So where is the balance, not only in the blogging realm but also in our everyday, face-to-face relationships? Because while we do need to be real and transparent with each other, we also need to know when to keep something quiet – either for a season or for forever.
I think that’s why, in part, my blog posts tend to be on the shorter side. I don’t want to reveal more than I should, nor do I want to blather on about something I’ll realize later I most certainly did not have all figured out (if I had it sorted out at all). It is a tenuous balance many days. So today before I tip over in a direction I cannot “take back”, I’m going to step away and take care of some other things.
See you Wednesday (and with, I hopes, a less ambiguous post)!
