pick-me-ups

pick-me-ups

I’m tired, and finding myself at a bit of a loss as to what to write here for this week. So here are some things doing this soul some good as of late:

I Dream of You, Vol. II by JJ Heller: As one of my favourite singer/songwriters, I was tickled to see a new album from JJ Heller containing re-workings of classic songs as well as some of JJ’s own work. One of my top three favourites is her take on Here Comes the Sun – it has a delightful sparkle to it, wouldn’t you say?

A Nation Worth Ranting About by Rick Mercer: The temptation is to liken Rick Mercer to a Canadian version of former host of The Daily Show Jon Stewart. But that’s not quite right. Rick Mercer is, well, Rick Mercer – possibly one of Canada’s biggest fans whose regular rants—first on the TV series This Hour Has 22 Minutes and then The Rick Mercer Report—were enjoyed by many Canadians from coast to coast to coast. And this book is a collection of some of those rants that I’m finding to be a nice spot of reading at the end of the day. For a sampling of what the book contains, here is a timely rant included in the book on winter driving:

And to close things out, I came across the following snippet only this past Monday on Twitter from someone who attended the funeral service of Eugene H. Peterson (I’ve mentioned him here a few times recently). And I keep turning it over, thinking, and letting it whisper to this heart:

What is picking you up today?
