A Coffee and Some Camp NaNoWriMo Friday

A Coffee and Some Camp NaNoWriMo Friday

I signed up for the July session of Camp NaNoWriMo last night, and it was sort of by accident. Photo Credit: Leigh Anne McConnaughey ©2006 (Flickr via Creative Commons)

You see I had only intended to check out the Web site as bid to have some sort of an idea for today’s blog post. I thought I would poke around the site, get some more information, and maybe decide from there if I wanted to give it a whirl and get some input via today’s post. But . . . it turned out that logging into said site with my NaNoWriMo ID automatically signed me up. Suddenly there were notices about camper profiles, novel info, and cabin assignments (which, fortunately for me, are optional).

I took a quick breath and decided to roll with it.

I uploaded a profile picture, punched in some basic bio information, a non-synopsis synopsis, and set a word count goal of 10,000 words for the idea I can’t/won’t shake of a coffee house-based spy network.

Now 10,000 words may seem like a pittance of a word count goal for a NaNoWriMo vet such as myself, but I’m keeping in mind two things:

1. I’ll be on vacation for two weeks next month. I’m sure Jeff would prefer to spend it with me, not NaNoWriMo Me (who tends to be by turns jubilant, stressed/grumpy, and The Eater of All the Carbs).

2. Every story starts somewhere. And a smaller word count goal will give me more time to jot notes and doodle in the margins as I figure out the proper framework for this story.

Plus, my graphic T-shirt collection needs something new.

Happy Friday!
