A Coffee and Some Good Things Friday

A Coffee and Some Good Things Friday

I’ve been thinking a lot about my cousin Brian in the wake of his passing from cancer at age 54 and the memorial service held for him this past Tuesday. I find myself wishing I had known him better. But I was able to learn more this week about a man who truly was dedicated to his faith, his family, and the work God had set before him during his time here. It got me to thinking about how I’m living the life set before me, how intentional I’m being. And that is a good thing, to have these checks in one’s spirit, so life is not something that simply passes us by but is instead lived.

Andi Cumbo wrote about living intentionally yesterday, and with where my thoughts have been since Tuesday, it really struck a chord with me. Too often I drift along, doing what’s easy and then regretting it later. I needed her words, to be reminded that easy is not necessarily better in this life.

This may seem to be random, but it’s not: I think I’m becoming a bit of a typography snob.  For instance, I think the Papyrus font should be banned from use in all church presentations for the next ten years because, honestly, it has been overused. Thankfully, this video clip I found via Sammy Adebiyi’s blog has nary a hint of that particular font in it. It is worth the two minutes it takes to watch it, and is a reminder I’ve certainly needed this week.

Have you ever noticed how certain songs capture a particular mood or situation in a way words alone cannot do? I’ve been listening to David Crowder*Band’s song Our Communion a fair bit lately, and to me, it really captures the mood of communion. It starts slowly, contemplatively as we remember what Christ endured on His way to, and then on, the cross. Then it gains momentum, becoming joyous as we then remember what that means for us as Christians.

I hope you’ve also found some good things this week! Thanks for reading about a few of mine.
