A Coffee and Some Happy Finds Friday

A Coffee and Some Happy Finds Friday

In non-shocking news, there are a lot of crappy things happening in the world. A lot. As such, I’ve found myself searching out things of a more encouraging, happier bent before I become permanently mired in a Doom Spiral (as my husband calls them). To save you a bit of stumbling about, here are a few of the things that have helped encourage and lighten my soul: Author/speaker Beth Moore tackles the monster of insecurity We’ve all wrestled with this at one time or another, this feeling we’re not measuring up or are somehow “not enough” as we are. Sometimes we’re timid and withdrawn in our insecurities, other times we’re loud and obnoxious. But what I (and quite possibly you) need to realize is this: Insecurity often has a fear behind it and, as Beth Moore points out in a guest post on Ann Voskamp’s blog, that fear is what needs to be addressed.

A good music playlist I have a couple of long-standing playlists on my iDevices I tinker with every so often, depending on what’s speaking to me at the moment. This past week has seen these songs in particular resonate within me: Something Out of Me by Nicole Nordeman (Because sometimes, close to the surface, is the fear somehow God’s love will run out for me, His patience will one day wane.) Rise Again by Needtobreathe (Actually, the whole album this song is a part of is fantastic and is at turns contemplative, challenging, meditative, and joyful.) Cheek to Cheek by Oscar Peterson (A jazzy standard in the hands of a master. Oh, yeaaah …)

One man on a madcap e-mail endeavour The Popcast brought the e-mail antics of James Veitch to my attention, and if you have not yet watched James’ TED Talk about some interesting encounters he has had with e-mail scammers, well, you’re missing out. And so you can remedy that oversight, head on over to the Mental Floss piece shared by The Popcast on their Facebook page.

Have a happy Friday, all!
