A Coffee and Some Neat Things Friday

A Coffee and Some Neat Things Friday

This turned out to be a week where I spent more time away from home (and my writing desk) than I had planned on, but it has been a good week all the same. And in the midst of my “out and about”, I came across five fun/interesting things: 1. Blowing soap bubbles is fun, but the challenge is often to keep up a steady stream, as they don’t stick around for very long. But now you can see how a bubble bursts thanks to The Slow Mo Guys and hold onto the bubble magic for a little bit longer: 2. “Who sent you pennies in the mail?” my husband asked me yesterday (italics implied). I’ll tell you – one cool Californian I am happy to be able to call a friend. And here is the photographic proof I did, indeed, receive a pocketful of change in the mail. 3. This week I started reading Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking by Susan Cain. So far it is an engaging and thoughtful read that doesn’t frown upon or coddle either extroverts or introverts. 4. My nephew showed me what is possibly the shortest hang gliding video on You Tube. It is also backed by an appropriately epic song snippet. If you have 13 seconds, you can watch it here. 5. In evangelical circles, the trend for praise and worship songs has been you praise God with a fast tempo and worship Him with a slow/mellow rhythm. And there is nothing wrong with that per se. But sometimes it would be nice to end a song set something peppy like “Praise Like Fireworks” by Rend Collective Experiment. Because sometimes when the pastor is encouraging you all to “look alive!” before a sermon, you want to say it’s not because you’re bored that you look ready for a nap, it’s because you’ve been lulled to your drowsy state by the 10 slow worship songs that started the service. ;-)

Have a great weekend, everyone!
