A Coffee and Some Odds and Ends Friday

A Coffee and Some Odds and Ends Friday

Photo Credit: Suzanne Queen ©2009 (Flickr via Creative Commons) This won’t come as a surprise to many of you, but I’m hard on myself as a writer/blogger. Now there are times when it is justified, such as when I’m poking around on Pinterest as a way to avoid working on a story or blog post. Other times – eh, not so much such as when I’m sweating about page views and the number of replies or “likes” or retweets.

So it was pretty cool to find the following two quotes to encourage me to get (and keep) my rear in gear:

“We spend a lot more time thinking about our failures than God does. It's Thursday. Quit memorizing who you used to be.” – Bob Goff (via Twitter)

“Get out of your own way.” – Unknown (via (ironically) Pinterest)

Love, love, love it when things that are seemingly simple poke my heart in an encouraging way.

Speaking of poking my heart in a good way, Leanne Penny wrote about her struggles with grace and desiring “Bricks Over Manna” at her blog (which you should follow). It’s a comfort to know one is not alone in their struggles, isn’t it?

I also had a few verses in the Bible that jumped out at me for the first time earlier this week. They made me nod my head in agreement and giggle at the same time:

The sayings of Agur son of Jakeh contain this message. I am weary, O God; I am weary and worn out, O God. I am too stupid to be human, and I lack common sense. I have not mastered human wisdom, nor do I know the Holy One. -Proverbs 30:1-3 (NLT)

You know why these verses elicited the response they did? Because sometimes I do a lot of dumb things, whether in thought or word or deed, and I wonder how I even managed to get out of bed that morning. It’s that bad (and frustrating). But the cool thing is I can ask God for more wisdom, for a clearer head and mind and He’ll respond without making me feel like a bigger idiot in the process.

One more thing: If you follow me on Instagram or Twitter, then you also know my husband and I have been having our bathroom renovated. The cabinetry work was done at Jeff’s place of employment – he is a salesman – and as a customer, he also got to fill out a customer satisfaction survey. He texted me the following picture of the survey in question:

The survey made it to his boss yesterday, and he noticed the glowing review given to Jeff by Jeff. It was a true “LOL” moment.

Happy Friday! :-)
