A Coffee and Some Pondering Friday

And I was sitting and writing notes about “wish” vs. “work”, fretting about how I’m like the rich young ruler – wanting and eager to do the right thing one moment, sad and sorrowful the next when “too much” is asked to be freed from clenched and trembling hands – I finally looked in the right spot for an answer, for help:

Looking at his disciples, Jesus said, “Do you have any idea how difficult it is for people who ‘have it all’ to enter God’s kingdom?” . . . “You can’t imagine how difficult. I’d say it’s easier for a camel to go through a needle’s eye than for the rich to get into God’s kingdom.”

That set the disciples back on their heels. “Then who has any chance at all?” they asked.

Jesus was blunt: “No chance at all if you think you can pull it off by yourself. Every chance in the world if you let God do it.” –Mark 10:23, 24b-27 (The Message, emphasis added)

If I let God do it – I can relax my grip. I can breathe. I can even let go. I can surrender and allow God to remove all the burdens I was never meant to carry, all the “things” I think I need, but which He knows are holding me back and slowing things down.

But I’ll be honest – it still scares me to think of what all I may (will) be asked to give up even as I also realize I don’t want to become a compulsive hoarder, unable to move around in this life because I’m unable (unwilling) to let things go.

I’m still sorting this out. For those ahead of me on this road, any words of advice or encouragement would be greatly appreciated.

Now, because it’s Friday and I like to leave you with at least a smile if I can, here is another movie I’m hoping will be as good as the trailer promises:
