A Coffee and Some Squirrely Moments Friday
Have you ever had one of those days where it’s a struggle to focus? I had such a day just yesterday (which was also when this post was put together) and, oh boy, I’m glad I managed to complete all that I did! So before another squirrel goes scampering across the mental landscape, here are some things I have enjoyed or am enjoying or will soon be enjoying:
Saving Mr. Banks – At last, the movie which tells the tale of how Walt Disney finally brought P.L. Travers’ book Mary Poppins to the big screen is set to start today in my neck of the woods! Why the delay? I have no idea. But I’m going to see it tonight with some friends, and we’re all looking forward to it.
Malcolm Gladwell’s piece in Relevant Magazine – I have to confess to not having read any of Mr. Gladwell’s books (though I do know bits about them), but I thoroughly enjoyed the piece he wrote for the newest issue of Relevant Magazine about how he came to rediscover his faith. Rather than try to summarize his words, I’ll allow you the pleasure of reading them for yourself.
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty - I was somewhat surprised when my husband said he really wanted to see this movie. He’s usually itching to see something more science fiction-y, for one thing. But I’m glad we saw this one last week. As you can glimpse via the trailer, it is a beautifully shot film with a pretty sweet soundtrack and a great story to tell.
Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan – It’s a bit geeky with some mystery, some twists, and as slow as I have been with reading it, I’m enjoying something on every page. (For the record, the cover on my copy – a paperback edition from my local Chapters – is much cooler.)
Happy Friday, everyone! I hope there are good things for you to enjoy.
