A Coffee and Some Stuff Friday (#2)
It’s fun to find new things, isn’t it? Be it a book or album or store or any myriad of things, that thrill of a good discovery is, well, a good feeling. You could make the find alone or at the suggestion of another – but either way, when it’s something that “clicks” with you, you want to share it, don’t you? Here are some recent finds I’ve come across:
Album: Brave New World by Amanda Cook: Jamie and Knox of The Popcast Podcast have a weekly feature were they recommend things to check out or stay away from in the realm of pop culture/entertainment, be it music, books, or movies/TV shows. This week Jamie recommended Amanda Cook's album Brave New World because, in a nutshell, it’s good Christian art. And you guys – it’s beautiful. Heartfelt. And, like the last album put out by David Crowder*Band, needs at least one straight-through listen with good speakers or headphones with the “shuffle” function turned off. You can sample the album for yourself here. (And check out one of my favourite songs here (with headphones if you can).)
Movie: The Man From U.N.C.L.E.: Yes, this movie has been out for a little while now, but Jeff and I only recently checked it out for ourselves (night before last, in fact) and quite enjoyed this Guy Ritchie-directed caper. It’s a fun and rather frothy flick – a fun night out at the movies if you like a good spy/comedy flick with a well thought-out and put-together musical score.
Bible Verse: Matthew 13:44 (The Message): I was looking for a key verse for an upcoming Sunday school lesson, and while I ended up going with another verse, found I quite like how The Message bible words super-short story of a man finding a treasure:
God’s kingdom is like a treasure hidden in a field for years and then accidentally found by a trespasser. The finder is ecstatic – what a find! – and proceeds to sell everything he owns to raise money and buy that field.
Pssst – guys! We’re the trespassers! And what a find, what treasures are to be found in God’s kingdom!
How about you? What are some good finds from you week? Feel free to share them here, on Facebook, or on Twitter.
