1. For the first time I will be participating in two virtual (for me) 5K runs, and I’m looking forward to it. The first run is on May 25th and is being hosted by Ally Vesterfelt. She is raising money to build a classroom in Gulu, Uganda for her 30th birthday, which is a pretty awesome way to celebrate a milestone birthday. You can get more information for the Love Runs Remote 5K here.

The second race is on June 8th and is being hosted by Julie Shreve, who is raising money for some dear friends of hers. Julie shares their story here, and you can sign up for the race here. Julie’s a pro at this, y’all – this is the 2nd such run she is hosting! She also threatened to come up to Canada and beat me up if I missed signing up for this one. (She was only kidding. I think.)

2. I finally finished Susan Cain’s book Quiet and I highly recommend it. As an introvert, I felt like I made sense as I made my way through the book. But Ms. Cain doesn’t stop with introverts – she also helps one gain a better understanding of extroverts, and shows how both personality types have much to learn and gain from each other.

3. Sometimes what I think is a “bad thing” in my life is merely a distraction from the actual issue(s) I need to be dealing with. For example, I can waste a fair bit of time on the Internet if I’m not careful. The temptation is to say the Internet is evil, but as Paul Miller discovered during his yearlong break from the World Wide Web, such is not necessarily the case. He shares his reflections here, and when you have 15 minutes I encourage you to also watch the video embedded in the article. Good stuff.

4. My current “wear it out, but I can’t because it’s an MP3” song is the Mumford & Sons tune Awake My Soul. I was listening to it one morning this week while driving into work, and it was particularly beautiful. The sky was a drizzly gray, the grass becoming a brighter green, and my soul – my soul was awakening. Take a listen for yourself if you would like:

Happy Friday, everyone!
