A Coffee and Some Thoughts on Church Friday

A Coffee and Some Thoughts on Church Friday

First off, I’m sincerely sorry for the vagueness of Wednesday’s post Gimme Shelter (but not for sharing another Needtobreathe song because it’s a-mazing). As I’ve said before, writing is a way for me to process things. And suffice to say for this moment, Jeff and I are both processing an alteration to a dream we only recently admitted to both still harbouring. Maybe I can to into more detail in the next while, but for now the post will be standing off on the side, waiting for dawn to break. Photo Credit: Elliott Brown ©2013 (Flickr via Creative Commons)

Secondly, I’m not one who speaks well on potentially divisive issues (which is why there are maybe a handful of posts that deal with any “hot button” topics here). So while my original intent had been to write up a defense of the Christian church as a whole, now that some hours have passed and my mind settled I realize it’s not the best direction for me to be going in. And I’ll leave it at that.

What I would like to share with you, however, are some of the reasons I go to church. Some of them are (hopefully) on track, some (I am sure) need to be tweaked or tossed altogether. But it’s where I am at this particular point in time.

I go to church because: I want to learn more about God and His Word. It is a place where I was (and am) able to fulfill a long-held dream to be a teacher. It is a place where I have found much support and encouragement. It makes up a large part of my social circle.

Okay, this isn’t a full or detailed list. But as I said, my mind is settling down – idling may be a better word. And because I seem to love awkward endings more often than not as of late, this is where I’ll stop.

Happy Friday.
