A Song in My Head

A Song in My Head

I have been listening a lot lately to Mumford & Sons’ song “Below My Feet” from their album Babel, and the following portion of the lyrics keep winding through my mind, looping around my heart:

Keep the earth below my feet From my sweat, my blood runs weak Let me learn from where I have been Keep my eyes to serve, my hands to learn

Because I need to learn how to be in, yet not of, this world (keep the earth below my feet).

And to remember, even when I am working hard and feeling good about working hard, that I can’t do a lick of it without Jesus. In other words, I shouldn’t get a swelled head (from my sweat, my blood runs weak).

hide faceAll the while I am not to beat myself up for missteps and failures for life is a process, not a project. But will I see and hear what I need to learn (let me learn from where I have been)?

As life is a process, it is also not to be all about me, me, me – I am to be attentive to what is going on around me. I don’t want to be wrapped up in myself and miss the opportunity to be there, to be present for others (keep my eyes to serve, my hands to learn).

Now I’m not sure where to end this post, so here is my husband’s and mine “fail safe” for such situations (sorry it's a bit fuzzy):
