Bring On the Tunes

Bring On the Tunes

I spent a fair bit of time month before last gushing about Needtobreathe’s album Rivers in the Wasteland. And it’s still one of my favourites. I played “Brother” and “Wasteland” a fair bit last month. But now I have another album to add to my “Must Play Often” list: Crowder’s Neon Steeple. It’s a wonderful mix of techno, indie, and bluegrass (I’m sure I’m missing some elements) that carries weight and depth lyrically as well. You can sample it here for yourself., but before you do may I suggest you listen to the following two tracks first?

1. Come As You Are: I was in a vulnerable place when I heard this song for the first time. Three words in, I was teary-eyed. Too often (still!) I think I need to “get it together” before coming to God, before stepping out my front door. This song reminds me I’m loved and cared for as I am in whatever moment.

2. Because He Lives (ft. Bill Gaither): I’m not ashamed to share I have willingly listened to The Gaither Vocal Band. As such, I was excited and curious as to what sort of a twist David Crowder would put on a classic song, and how Bill Gaither would sound “remixed” as it were. Y’all, this is how you breathe new life into an old song. And it may be the song I play the most from the album. (When I crank it in the car, the rearview mirror vibrates. It’s brilliant.)

Okay, now you can check out the rest of album at Amazon. Happy listening!
