Change, Part ... I've Lost Track

Change, Part ... I've Lost Track

“Nothing endures but change.” -Heraclitus

Things keep changing at my office job. It seems just when we have things figured out as to who is doing what, someone within the company (and connected to our department) switches jobs, throwing our “who-and-what” into some level of disarray. “Maybe,” I said a little while ago to my boss’s boss, “I need to quit thinking I have things sorted out. Because when I do that, stuff changes again.”

On the plus side of this latest round of changes, I am getting more hours at work (because stuff like that happens when you ask God to help you clear off lingering debt) and getting to learn new things. And the learning is not only happening at work – it’s also happening at home. I’m learning how to better prioritize the hours I do have out of the office to write, to clean, to organize, and to rest.

I’ve also seen how quickly I become defensive and very “Me!” focused when I’m overwhelmed by demands real and perceived. As my hubby kindly reminded me earlier this week, while I do have more work to do I have also been given more time in which to do it. I’m finding I also don’t have to unquestioningly take everything that is handed to me, either. I can ask questions and oftentimes a middle ground can be reached which benefits all involved.  In addition, I need to make the space to take a step back and look at the bigger picture. (A few minutes in the bathroom and a quickly prayed “Ack! Help! ‘Cause I’m freaking out!” does wonders, y’all.)

What do you do when change comes your way?  No, seriously – hit me up with your advice/non-carbohydrate-fueled coping mechanisms either here, on my Facebook page, or via Twitter. I’d love to hear from you (And eat less junk food – ha!).
