A Coffee and Some New Tunes Friday

  1. Matt Maher – The Love In Between:  As soon as I heard the single ‘Turn Around” about six weeks ago, I headed over to the iTunes store to see if I could download it onto my iPod.  But there was no sign Canada even planned to have this album available.  Boo!  Yet this week, after the official release date for “The Love In Between” had come and gone, I logged on and let out an excited squeal upon discovering it was available.  I wasted no time in downloading and listening to it.  Standout tracks include the aforementioned “Turn Around”, “On My Way”, and “My Only Love”.  Of the last song, it solidifies my opinion (along with Steven Curtis Chapman’s “I Will Be Here”) the best love songs are penned by those who have been married for a little while.  They’re also best appreciated by those in a similar boat.  But again, that’s just my opinion.
  2. The City Harmonic – I Have a Dream (It Feels Like Home):  Sometimes I’ll hear a snippet of a song and it doesn’t really catch my attention at first.  But then I hear it awhile later, and it has my attention.  Such was the case with The City Harmonic’s song “Manifesto”.  At first, I thought it was okay but upon a second listen this week that was quickly followed up by “Mountaintop” and the album’s title track and I was hooked.  The texture and movement of this group’s music is gorgeous, and is a perfect backdrop for the lyrical content.  I dare you to try to stay completely still while listening to these guys.  Let me know if you succeed.

What new tunes have caught your attention this week?  Or did you rediscover an old favourite?
