A Coffee and Some Good Medicine Friday

A Coffee and Some Good Medicine Friday

It has been said time and again – and in a variety of ways – that laughter is good medicine. And who doesn’t like to laugh?

I have been blessed to marry a man who makes me laugh often. And as negative as I have been, I’m learning to look more for the positive things in life. Thinking the worst doesn’t prepare me for any bumps or obstacles on the road ahead. But being able to find some humour in a tough situation does help lighten the load. There were moments of laughter when my husband went through chemotherapy a few years back. There were chuckles to be heard when both my parents experienced serious medical/health situations in the last couple of years.

Genuine laughter, genuine bursts of joy do help one to traverse rough roads.

So take one to three of the following. I hope they brighten your outlook and add a spring to your step:

1. My friend who travels the “interwebs” under the moniker RandomThoughts had a stretch of travelling to do over the holidays. Her annoyance will lead to your chuckling at least a time or two as she shares her Traveling Observations (I used the American spelling there just for you, RT!)

2. I find myself looking forward to Dave Barry’s recap of the prior year at the beginning of each January. His take on the scandals, spills, and headlines in his 2011 Year in Review is another winner. Warning: Do not drink or eat while reading this, unless you want food or beverages coming out of your nose.

3. According to their Web site, the folks at Improv Everywhere cause ". . . scenes of chaos and joy in public places." I'd say they're succeeding. There is a small part of me that would like to move to New York and participate in one of their scenes (or even see it happen live):
