Finding This Blog's Focal Point - Part I

Finding This Blog's Focal Point - Part I

Oh, this is proving to be a difficult post to get out of my head and onto the screen. I started it last night, decided to sleep on it, then decided to sleep in on it (thanks to the Canada Day long weekend), and now here I am. It’s currently 8:48 a.m. MDT. I have finished a bowl of Honey Nut Cheerios and my coffee is almost at perfect drinking temperature. (The iTunes Random Song Selector, however, needs a little bit of help.)

I’m not sure about the source of my reticence for today’s post. It’s not anything deeply personal or private I’m aiming to share. Seriously, it’s not. I think it’s more a case of the reason, the story, behind this blog being something I never really tried to put into words before. When I decided in August 2007 to turf the blog I had been at for almost a year, I had no grand scheme for where to go with the new blog. I had a country song inspire the blog name and, in turn, I hoped the new moniker would help me find more of a focus in terms of blogging content.

A perusal of This Time Around will show I’ve sort of jumped around with things here. I’ve blogged about faith, music, movies, NaNoWriMo, books, and various whatnots pertaining to my life. It has been quite the “potluck” of a blog. But time and again, I have read a blog needs to have ‘focus’, a ‘theme’, something for people to connect with and become a part of and whatnot. And so again, I wonder what that is to look like for this blog. What is the need or niche I’m to be filling?

I would, honestly, love to have a nifty mission statement to tack onto my bulletin board and to share here with you. But it’s still simmering away on the back burner. So as I mull over this a bit more, here is the song behind this blog:

Hopefully things will have come to a boil by Wednesday. As always, thank you for taking the time to wander around here with me – I truly do appreciate it!
