Laughter: Good for the Soul

I’m finding it interesting how I’m having a hard time trying to write about things I find funny. It’s interesting because, on a whole, I think my husband and I are able to find the humour in things without too much trouble. It has helped us through some difficult times and added some sparkle to the good ones. As the Yiddish proverb says, “What soap is to the body, laughter is to the soul.” And goodness, there are some times when our souls have needed a good scrubbing. So rather than pontificate on what I think is funny, sometimes the best thing to do is to ‘show’ rather than ‘tell’.

Here are a few things that have yet to fail to tickle my funny bone:

1. The Skit Guys – “Running the Race”: Any time Tommy (aka Stevie Stevenson) gets Eddie (aka “Demon” Dan) to crack during a skit, it’s a win for the audience.

2. Fraiser – “Three Valentines”: Niles Crane readies for a date. Things don’t go as planned.

3. Hugh Laurie & Helen Mirren presenting at the 2006 Emmy Awards: He’s so good at curmudgeonly, one sometimes forgets how great of a comedian he is.

4. Simon’s Cat – “Fly Guy”: This is particularly hilarious if you have a cat. Still amusing if you don’t.
