I love music. I love to sing loudly when no one can hear me. I love how a well-composed melody can stir the soul and lift the spirit. I love how so much can be packed into (often) four minutes. So it makes sense for me to be tinkering with a playlist on my iPod in a bid to provide an audio pick-me-up as I get going yet again with some goals and plans and changes for 2015. Here’s what is getting me bopping and buckling down at present:

I Have Confidence – Julie Andrews, The Sound of Music Soundtrack Having recently seen The Sound of Music, the scene of postulant Maria making her way to the Von Trapp home in the dress even the poor didn’t want, guitar case and carpet bag in hand, adds a certain exuberance to this song.

Brother – NEEDTOBREATHE, Rivers in the Wasteland It’s good to remember in the storms of life, one need not be alone. And even when there are not storm clouds raging, I need to keep in mind I don’t have to do everything by myself – there are those I can learn from and lean on and work with to get things done.

Don’t Let It Break Your Heart – Coldplay, Mylo Xyloto Crappy things happen. Marks are missed. Races go off course (or don’t start at all). But somehow, this song reminds me such things do not have to, well, break my heart.

Awakening – Switchfoot, Oh! Gravity Because sometimes I just need a rocking song. (Also, I see someone let Buster have unfettered access to the juice …)

I Want You Bach – The Piano Guys I’m glad someone asked the question of what would happen if the 1770s collided with the 1970s, because apparently it’s fun. And sometimes there’s nothing better than a joy-infused tune to help get one going yet again.

Annnnd I’m not quite sure how to end this. So …
