I’m excited and a bit gobsmacked it is time yet again for another novel-writing adventure. I don’t even remember what I had by the end of last year's challenge beyond 50,000 words. I think I kept starting over with it. So it seems like a nifty idea for this year to not end up with multiple Chapter One headers by the time November 30th draws to a close. Other than that, however, I have no firm plan on what to do for this year.

I have debated revisiting The Secret Lives of Baristas – my entry from 2011. I’d like for it to be more than a 50,000+ jumble of words and sleep-deprived/caffeine-fuelled ramblings. But even as I wonder what a story centered more around the character of Artie Munroe would look like (maybe find him a lovely wife …), I also wonder if starting with something fresh would be better. But what, exactly, should the new idea be? Heavier? Fluffy? Fun? Serious? Pondering? And, most importantly, what could I go with for 30 straight days?

Decisions, decisions …

At least this year I have not resolved to undertake some crazy-big home-related project, like replacing and alphabetizing the spice rack or going through all our books or learning how to knit because sometime in the future it would be relaxing. So there isn’t that to distract me or throw me into a dither.

But the more pressing issue: What to write? At least I have a few days to figure it out yet.
