One Word: Today

One Word: Today

Today. A simple word, really.

Yet I have spent so much time regretting its predecessor “Yesterday” and worrying about its heir “Tomorrow” that I often overlook it, waste it, and end up adding it to my “Yester” list.

But this year . . . This year I want to do what I can to lay hold of today, well, today. I want to make good use of it, to walk in the new mercies and fresh grace promised in it, to take hold of my millionth second chance from the One who cannot be contained by it (or any other measure of time).

Because if I keep looking over my shoulder at the past, I miss out on today and have my tomorrows set on a maddening repeat. Present worries become future realities. All because I’m not seeing and hearing what God has in store for this day.

So this year I will do what I can today. Each day is a step – here’s to the first one of (for this leap year) 366.

I want to send out a big thanks to Alece and her #OneWord365 project for the much-needed inspiration and simplification.  THANKS!
