Plans Gone Awry

Plans Gone Awry

Planning-Session-by-WorldIslandInfo-dot-com.jpg

Last week was not the first time I have faced such a scenario:

  1. I made plans.
  2. Some things happened that caused those plans to go awry.
  3. I got upset/frustrated/angry/whatever other reaction that is not exactly positive.
  4. Plans were readjusted and the world did not come to an end, figuratively or literally.

Yes, there I was last Monday morning, making the bed and praying/venting to God. And as I snapped the sheets straight with perhaps a bit more force than necessary I was oh-so-gently (but firmly) reminded of something: None of this was catching God unawares. He knew how the day and how the week was going to play out in contrast to my plans.

That does not mean I believe He orchestrated every single step of it (He doesn’t give bad or imperfect gifts, y’all), but it does mean I know He made provision for it, He was there to help, to guard, to guide. And that helped me to move through the week with more grace, I believe, than I otherwise would have. Did it stop all my grumblings and the like? Ha, ha! That would have been fantastic for Jeff in particular. But seriously – it helped me to get things back in check a lot sooner than if I had not been reminded of God’s provision in the midst of it all.

(But I do still hope this week goes a bit more closely according to plan, and that I’ll be quicker to lay hold of mercy and grace wherever things veer off my hoped-for course.)

*I am not equating God with Godzilla - I just thought the picture was cute. Actually, I can be more like Godzilla, all loud and roar-y and stomping around when things don't go my way.
