Titles Are Hard

Titles Are Hard

Usually when I’ve been struggling to get a post together for this here blog, I’ve moved on to other things and come back a day or two later to get things sorted out and put up. It was a luxury afforded by an irregular posting schedule. It is also something I am missing right now as I return to a regular posting schedule after a lengthy absence. Oh, how I wish I could call it done for the day and go watch something on Netflix or pick up a book or peruse something online or read a magazine.

But there are things I hope to do, things I’d like to check off my tattered To Do list (or maybe it’s time to make a fresh list, allow light and hope and brightness into the dream(s) again), and it won’t happen if I don’t stick to some things even when the journey hits bumps and drops, crazy turns and slower stretches. So here I sit, music playing, butt in chair, and fingers on keyboard, and my curiosity about the noises coming from the living room being put aside (likely it involves my husband and a good-sized canvas having prep work done on it).

I was talking with an old friend about some things she and her husband want to do around their house and yard, and she said how one particular plan might get moved to the back burner after some discussion. Other things should probably take priority, they are thinking, at least for now, even as the “fun” thing would be, well, much more fun that the “smart” things they should work on instead. We’ve all encountered that, the realization sometimes the fun things are best put off in favour of the practical things, the smart things, the things that when we take a look (and a breath) will help make the fun things more enjoyable in the long run.

I have no lessons or insights here, only a few field notes as it were from the present stage of a present journey. (Not only are titles hard at times, so are endings … and middles … and beginnings …)
