What Stories to Tell?

What Stories to Tell?

I love stories. I love to read them, hear them, see them, mull over the ones with some meat to them and laugh over the light and fluffy ones.

I’ve even tried to tell a few my self, with varying degrees of success.

So it makes me smile inside anytime I read in the Bible that Jesus told people stories. He never told them to pander to His audience or to His followers. He explained the ‘why’ behind the stories to His disciples this way:

You’ve been given insight into God’s Kingdom – you know how it works. But to those who can’t see it yet, everything comes in stories, creating readiness, nudging them toward receptive insight. ~Mark 4:11 (Message)

Mark added later in the same chapter:

. . . With many stories like these, He presented His message to them, fitting the stories to their experience and maturity. ~Mark 4:33 (Message)

And I wonder . . . are these the sorts of stories I am to tell? Stories that nudge people towards the Master Storyteller?

While I mull that over, here is the video for Switchfoot’s song Dare You to Move. It tells a fantastic story both lyrically and visually about fighting against resistance, living life on purpose, and, well, I’ll let you fill in the rest yourself:
